Tenaha Pirates Update

The LA Times had this story back in March, so it seems like this is on CNN simply because they have decided to cover it.. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad they have. In fact, I think they did a pretty good job with it. The stunning thing is that the Tenaha authorities don't seem to be disputing any of the facts. They simply say they acted within their discretion to battle drug traffic passing through town. CNN's Jeffery Toobin did say this is what the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division is for. Is the US Attorney's office not looking into this?

REDNECKISTANI NABBED

"Tommy Hollingsworth, 45, took off in his mother’s Lincoln Continental Sunday evening.....sheriff’s deputies also had a theft report from a Central gas station. Someone driving a car similar to Hollingsworth’s had stolen $15 worth of gas and some beer, Henson said."

REDNECKISTANI PIRATES! Where is the US?

The City of Teneha and several of its officials are named in a federal law suit alleging the defendants have used Texas asset forfeiture laws as a cover to steal money from motorists. This is a very disturbing story and makes one wonder why there is no mention of a federal criminal investigation. All that seems to be new here is that it has gotten CNN's attention. Other papers have covered this in the past.
